WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN FLAX SEED?
brown & gold flaxseed
The biggest difference is consistency, there are two varieties of golden flax, Omega and Carter.  There are many brown flax varieties as many as sixty.  With this many varieties there are real problems with consistency in brown flax.  So buyers should when ordering brown flax should definitely  specify variety and also take time to taste the different varieties and specify favorites.  The differences in the brown flax is
taste, oil content and seed coat thickness.

Golden flaxseed is more consistent with between 80 to 85 % Omega and the balance Carter.  This is one of the reason so many food companies that use flaxseed are asking for golden flaxseed over brown flaxseed.  This is why golden flaxseed is better then brown flaxseed. At Gussiaas Family Farm, we always segregate the two different varieties.  We have sold both varieties, but almost all sales have been Omega.  If any of our customers want samples sent out we can do this.
